THE SCHOOL SANITATION SOLUTIONS (TRIPLE-S) CHALLENGE 2023 Edition

ESSAY TOPIC

While several basic schools do not have access to toilet facilities, the poor maintenance of existing ones has also become a major concern. Some schools have even locked up their toilet facilities for lack of maintenance, forcing learners and staff to practice open defecation. What would you do to address the poor maintenance of toilet facilities in schools if you were the Director General of the Ghana Education Service?

INSTRUCTIONS

INTERESTED PARTICIPANTS ARE REQUIRED TO READ AND OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS VERY CAREFULLY

  1. All essays should be hand-written. You must write the essay yourself and in your own handwriting because if your work is shortlisted, you will be required to verbally defend your script before a panel of experts in the second round.
  2. Your essay should be written in the English Language and should not be more than 1,500 words long.
  3. Every point you raise should be clearly articulated.
  4. Write clearly at the top of your worksheet, (a) your full name, (b) the name of your school, (c) the town, district, and region where the school is located, and (d) the telephone numbers of your Class Teacher AND one of your parents/guardians.
  5. You may submit your work in hard copy to any World Vision Ghana office in the country.
  6. All entries should be addressed to The Coordinator, School Sanitation Solutions Challenge, World Vision Ghana,
  7. Entries may be submitted at the Regional or District Education Directorate and received by the Regional or District SHEP Coordinator, OR at the National, regional and district offices of the Ghana National Council on Private Schools
  8. You may also send by post to The Coordinator, School Sanitation Solutions Challenge, World Vision Ghana, PMB Accra North or hand/courier delivered to World Vision Ghana, No. 3 Kotei Robertson St, North Industrial Area – Accra.
  9. Deadline for submission of entries has been extended to Friday, 28th April, 2023 by 5:00pm.
  10. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

OTHER DETAILS

ROUND ONE (THE COMMON CONTEST)

Every interested candidate submits an essay by the stated deadline to the addresses provided above. Five best entries from each of the four zones nationwide will be shortlisted for the Masters Encounter in Round Two. Only shortlisted participants will be contacted for further information.

ROUND TWO (THE MASTERS ENCOUNTER)

The 20 shortlisted contestants will be invited to verbally defend their scripts before a three-member Panel of Experts at a public forum called Masters Encounter in June 2023 at a designated location within each zone. The best contestant from each zone will be selected by the panel of experts for the Grand Finale, also referred to as the Battle of Champions.

GRAND FINALE (THE BATTLE OF CHAMPIONS)

The four best zonal contestants will be invited to Accra to participate in the Grand Finale/Battle of Champions scheduled for Sunday, 13th August, 2023 at the National Theatre as part of the 2nd Children’s Sanitation Fair. It will be a competition on sanitation in Ghana to be refereed by a Quiz Master. The competition will be telecast on Radio & Television and streamed live on Facebook.

PRIZES

  • Each of the 20 shortlisted participants in the Masters Encounter will receive certificates and attractive prizes;
  • The 3rd Runner-up in the Battle of Champions takes home a tablet, a cash prize, educational materials and attractive prizes;
  • The 2nd Runner-up takes home a tablet, a cash prize, educational materials and attractive prizes;
  • The 1st Runner-up takes home a tablet, a cash prize, educational materials and attractive prizes;
  • The overall winner takes home a Laptop Computer, a cash prize, educational materials and a Desktop Computer and other attractive prizes for his/her school. He/she will be decorated as the Child Sanitation Diplomat and supported by the organizers to implement a one-year Sanitation Project.
