Mawadatu is next Child Sanitation Diplomat

Twelve-year-old JHS one pupil, Naziru Mawadatu from the Damongo Girls Model JHS in the Savannah Region has won the 2nd edition of the School Sanitation Solutions Challenge (Triple S) to become the next Child Sanitation Diplomat.

Mawada, as she is affectionately called by her peers and teachers, won by 25.3 points ahead of the 2nd placed Annabel Ankonu, a class six pupil from the Suhum MA Experimental A Primary School in the Eastern Region, who scored 24.9 points.

Gladstone Yinnaam Nachinab from the Etoile Royale Educational Centre in Tamale followed with 23.2 points, while Emmanuella Naa Darkua Vanderpuye from the John Wesley Basic School at Palladium in Accra earned 21.6 points to place 4th.

The Triple S Challenge is organized by Kings Hall Media and World Vision Ghana annually, with support from the GAMA Sanitation and Water Project of the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, the School Health Education Programme of the Ghana Education Service, and the Zoomlion Foundation. The main objective of the child-centered campaign is to catch the children young, groom them to love and campaign for improved sanitation in Ghana, as well as explore the potentials of children to suggest sustainable solutions to Ghana’s sanitation challenges.

Mawada, the Child Sanitation Diplomat – 2021

As winner of the Triple S Challenge, Mawadatu automatically becomes the next Child Sanitation Diplomat for one year to play an ambassadorial role in sanitation promotion in Ghana.

Managed by Kings Hall Media, the Child Sanitation Diplomat will be groomed and assisted to undertake a one-year sanitation campaign, targeting children, adults and policy-makers, towards improvement in sanitation behaviours and policies in the country.

Gracing the final of the the three-tier contest live on GTV’s What DO You Know programme on 19th September, 2021, was the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Hon Cecilia Abena Dapaah and her Chief Director, Mr Noah Tumfo. Also present were the CEO of Kings Hall Media, Emmanuel Addai, the National Director of World Vision Ghana, Dickens Thunde, the Director of Ghana Education Service School Health Education Programme (GES/SHEP), Esi Inkoom, Executive Secretary of the Coalition of NGOs in Water and Sanitation (CONIWAS), Executive Secretary of the Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA), representatives from the GAMA Sanitation and Water Project and the Zoomlion Foundation, as well as representatives from other WASH Sector institutions.
